I believe deeply in accountability for public officials. Knowing where someone’s true interests and obligations lie is at the heart of how we can place trust in our elected representatives, and more knowledge for voters before they make such an important decision is at the heart of our democracy. Before someone takes a vote, they should know where my real loyalties lie. Mine are with the people of this wonderful City.
That is why today, I am releasing my 2015 and 2016 tax returns so that voters have the clearest picture of who I am, where my money goes, and what my interests are. While this took some thought from my family and me, we agreed that it would be irresponsible to let voters cast ballots for me without having faith in me as a person and my tax record. I want you to know that I put my money where my mouth is and that I don’t just talk about my values, I live them.
You have a right to see where a public official’s money goes and comes from, and the financial disclosure forms required by the City of Phoenix do not always tell the whole story when you have complicated real estate dealings with developers. I am doing this in the spirit of transparency.
I am proud to Say Yes to Accountability and release my tax returns. I challenge my opponent to do the same and be accountable to his constituents.
